About S.A.F.EHow S.A.F.E BeganS.A.F.E began in the Pilbara region of WA in Karratha in February 2003 to address the lack of an animal shelter for homeless cats & dogs. In the past many of these animals were euthanased because there was no organisation to facilitate the rescue and rehoming of these animals. This was quickly followed by the formation of S.A.F.E Hedland in July 2003.OverviewS.A.F.E has set up a network of temporary carers who open their homes to abandoned cats & dogs whilst permanent homes are sought. The need for the services which S.A.F.E provides is not isolated to the Pilbara. It is our vision that where needed, further S.A.F.E branches will be established in locations where there is currently no animal shelter or rescue program. S.A.F.E is proactive in helping to bring about positive change in the areas which cause so many unwanted, abandoned and neglected dogs & cats and strongly supports and promotes de-sexing of all domestic pets. Through positive change, the primary goal for S.A.F.E is to make a difference in the quality of life for cats & dogs and to promote the immense value to humans of pet ownership. Our LocationThe Pilbara is a massive, remote area in the Northwest of Western Australia encompassing 510,000 square kilometres which is approximately 20% of the State's total land area. It has a population of approximately 45,000, the majority of which is distributed unevenly throughout the Western third of the region. |
