Congratulations to Kathryn and Lucinda for winning the Community Pet Watch Award!

Kathryn and her daughter Lucinda were on their way home when they saw a Corella hopping around the ground. As they approached it, to make sure it was alright, the bird tried to take flight, but sadly it struggled and was totally exhausted by the time it reached a low tree branch. Both mother and daughter knew that an injured, nearly flightless Corella would not last long in the fierce Pilbara environment and they wanted to help.

The bird eyed them warily from its branch as Kathryn climbed the tree. Catching a Corella, even an injured one, is not as easy as it sounds. After a bit of manoeuvring they captured it in a shirt and headed straight to S.A.F.E. The Corella was taken straight to Pilbara Wildlife Carer Wendy who examined it and said it was very emaciated and that seed was in short supply for these birds. She prepared a feed and it was a relief to know it would be in the best of care.

Thank you Kathryn and Lucinda for your alertness and bravery.
