Tillie’s new owner, Jo, did a painting of Tillie for their Christmas card. And inside the card was a poem she wrote: |

A Tillie Christmas
- Joanne West Cornish, Dec 2011
‘Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Tillie is squeaking
An old rubber mouse.
In fact all our floor space
Is littered with toys
Though not quite the sort
To entice girls and boys.
The red plastic pots
Are now crumpled and torn
And her flat little fox man
Is more than just worn.
The tinkle of dog tags
Is heard through each room
While Tillie runs through them
At a well-measured zoom.
And coming home now
Is such a nice treat
Being greeted with kisses
And warm puppy feet.
In fact, our dear Tillie
And each one of her joys
Make Christmas quite special
For grown girls and boys.
Especially us.
Merry Christmas

One of the best elves we had,
though she did tend to chew up our packages a bit. |
Deb,
Tillie has brought us such happiness, and we adore her more than we could possibly express. We are two old people totally besotted by a small creature who has invaded our home and our hearts.
Thank you again... and especially to Mary, who knew she was right for us.
Kind regards,
Jo & Patrick |

Dear Mary
Thank you so much for taking the trouble with that detail.
We admire and congratulate you for saving lives in such a way. We humans are much better for close contact with animals.
As for dear Tillie, I wince to think of her being alone and in poor condition.
She gets a good long walk every day.
If you could see her now, playing with often bigger dogs in the park or at the beach. . . I am sending you a video of her playing with our grandchildren's kelpie. Roxy is about the same age. . . Three times as heavy. Tillie simply won't let her on to her own sofa.
Many thanks
Patrick

Hi there,
Sorry I haven’t replied but it is flat out here at the moment (nothing new!!!)
I don’t know anymore about Tillie. Just that she was found wandering. She was in such poor condition she would definitely have escaped to find food. There were other pups like her sighted but although I looked all along the street only she was found. She was very tiny, flea infested, mangey and terrified. She would only look at you sideways for a week or so, and avoided eye contact. I rescued her in July sometime, but kept her in care with me and my small dogs, and other young small dogs. She was scared of the dogs until she started to feel well and then all she did was play with them. Although she was skinny, she wasn’t like other starved pups in that she didn’t inhale or squabble over food. It was hard work getting her to eat. I put her on Nutrigel, which is a palatable gel full of vitamin B and various minerals, designed to stimulate appetite. It took about a month before she ate regularly and happily. She would only eat if you put her food next to your feet and sat with her. She was on expensive Advance puppy biscuits and soft food but still took a while to get her appetite. Once she did, as you know, she’s a scoffer!!!
SAFE Carnarvon puts its extra money into nutrition as the majority of our rescues are in poor, if not shocking, condition. We use the best quality we can get/afford, and we have a great relationship with our vets for that and other reasons. No Pal or Chum for our animals!!!
Both my husband and I really loved her as she is such a “soft” girl. Very gentle but can also be steely.
I am really happy that she is a match for you. I thought long and hard between the 3 little dogs I had at that time, and after the emails and photos from each of the families that adopted them, I got it right! Each of them suit their new homes perfectly. We really try to match personalities to people.
Take care, and give her a special hug from Conrad and I as she is a special little girl, that we weren’t in a hurry to re-home. We had her about 3 months I think, and we enjoyed her. Please stay in touch and we will put her up on happy outcomes in a couple of months if you send a story and pictures.
Kind Regards
Mary |
