Mahli (was Mahla)

31 January 2012

Hi there,

(this part was written in late winter of 2011)

It's me again, Mahla.  I call myself Mahli now, and just wanted to update all of you about my situation. I am mostly very well, but lately I do have one complaint: they really expect me to go out when it rains!!!  I'm not sure what they are thinking, but I am sure they don't realise, that I get wet feet. Unacceptable, but not all is lost yet. It turns out these humans are quite smart and they learn quickly. The latest trick my dad learned: as soon as I sit in front of him he produces a yummy treat... but that's not all! As soon as I go to any door (front or back) they open it for me... any time of the day or night. At night they say strange things sometimes and I am far too well mannered to repeat the #@*^! words. But don't worry I am working on that.

We have been to the beach today with my friend Jarrah. We always pick her up when we go to the beach. It’s lot's of fun, but I just can't see the point of putting my big toe into the water. Jarrah doesn't seem to mind, as a matter of fact..I think she even likes it????!

In the morning we usually go to the doggy park. I have two friends there: Sunny and Jasper.

When Mum sits in her rocking chair in the evening and we watch TV, I like to stir things up a bit.  Once I finish with her I like to go over to Dad and entertain him. He likes laying on the sofa and offers a huge area of offense. So many yummy features to chew on: the feet, legs, hands, and if all this doesn't provoke a reaction, a lick over his face always does the trick.

(now we are in the new year of 2012)

I am so much more grown up now--no more chewing! That seems to delight mum and dad, but I still can't stop collecting 'stuff' from around the house and garden. I do enjoy sleeping with mum's shoes in my bed or dad's underwear or socks. The newest and funnest entertainment is to collect twigs and leafs, preferably with bugs on them and bring them inside onto my favorite place: the lounge. I am shredding everything to a pulp and mum seems to love to pick it up. I just have to keep her entertained! Mum made it extra comfy on the lounge with a special blanket and some smaller cushions. I sometimes think I've gone to heaven. Having said that I have another complaint: the food situation is not satisfactory! I am hungry 24/7! And when I hear things like "You are a bit chubby!" I look around and have no idea who they are talking to. Food is soooo yummy that I would do anything for it.

Mum needs to lose some weight and assumes I do too. Now we are jogging every morning at 5:30am to the beach...rain, shine, or pitch black darkness!!! Lucky I have a rain coat for the wetter days!!! The things we put up with to amuse the humans!!!! It takes us about an hour and 20 minutes by the time we get back home. Now that dad is overseas I spend a bit of time alone guarding the house, or I go for a play to Sunny's house. Occasionally I spend the weekend at Jaspers's house, when mum goes away. I love that, because I can teach Jasper new tricks. His parents are very nice and give in so easily...and they feed me much better! Mum is always horrified when she picks me up. I can't see why?!? And we both can sleep in their huge waterbed. So much fun! Especially during the day. We play hide and seek, but not just in bed...no...we run through the whole house. Move a few rugs along the way and shift a vase or two. The chairs are in the way quite often but Jasper has learned that by jumping up on them, they will tumble. This makes them more maneuverable for me. We are a great team.

Right now I am recovering from the last few weeks. It has been just like a Bed & Breakfast place here. People were coming and going, or staying for a few nights. Since I am still very shy with strangers it always takes me a day or so to come out and greet everybody. I will get there, because nobody is forcing me and curiosity gets the better of me eventually. Still, very nerve wracking!

That's it from warm to hot Adelaide. I have to say: Thank you Mary for picking me up. My mum would not know what to do without me anymore. She is cuddling me for long times at night in front of the TV and she snuggles right against me at night in bed. That is soooo comfy for both of us!

Love,

Mahli

P.S.: Carola here: Sorry Mary, I ment to send you Christmas greetings and the best wishes for the new year! Thanks again for finding the perfect dog for me. There is nothing I would change about her, if I could.
